Gareth Bale sends response to Wrexham offer and it's not the one you were hoping for

If you are on the Wrexham bandwagon, you surely know that owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have proposed that Welsh legend Gareth Bale come out from retirement and join their Hollywood tale in a series of funny golf jokes on Twitter – I mean, as funny as golf can be.

After earning promotion from the National League to League Two (England's fourth division), the actors are already planning next season, and their goal is to keep climbing the ranks of the English soccer pyramid. And since Wrexham is in Wales, the idea of having Bale on board wasn't totally far-fetched.

So what does Bale think of the idea?

On Twitter, the former Tottenham, Real Madrid and LAFC star kept the joke rolling with a cryptic message.

However, on Friday, he officially put the idea to rest.

Bale attended the UK Sport Industry Awards ceremony and when asked if he was considering playing in Wrexham, he said: "No, I don't think so. I think I was looking more for a free round of golf off Rob."

"I'm sure we'll have a chat and a joke, but I'm quite happy where I am. I'm spending a lot of time with my kids, my wife, time that I've lost so much over the years being committed to football. I'm just enjoying family life and playing some golf," he added on a more serious note.

He even went on to say that he didn't miss soccer at all. "I started at a young age and felt the time was right," he concluded.

Wrexham play their final game of the season at Torquay on Saturday.
