The18.com World Cup Kit Championship: Group Stage

It's almost World Cup tournament time, and we here at The18 decided to start things early with our first-ever The18.com World Cup Kit Championship.

Someone Graffitied Brazil's World Cup Plane

Forget about the World Cup buses that will be taking national teams around Brazil in two weeks with slogans painted on their sides. Check out the plane that the Brazilian national team will be flying in and out of Brazil's unfinished airports (low blow, we know). Brazilian artists and identical twins, Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo (a.k.a.

Water Breaks At World Cup 2014?

We here at The18 have already written about the trials that the USMNT will go through regarding weather and travel at this year's World Cup. However, in the past weeks the Brazilan player’s federation, also known as Fenapaf, filed a lawsuit to change kickoff times of 24 matches scheduled to start at 1 p.m. local time (12 p.m. ET).

The USMNT Wins 2-0! Should You Be Worried?

The United States opened its World Cup warmup matches with a sluggish 2-0 win over 85th-ranked Azerbaijan at Candlestick Park in San Francisco last night. With team captain Clint Dempsey a late scratch with a groin injury, the U.S. team played a 4-4-2 formation, with Jozy Altidore and Chris Wondolowski up front. Wondolowski had two excellent chances in the early part of the match off set pieces in the 4th and 15th minutes, but could not convert the opportunities into goals. It was only in the second half that the U.S.

The World Cup Never Looked So Good

For World Cup 2014, ESPN engaged Brazilian artist and graphic designer Cristiano Siqueira to create a series of posters, one for each of the 32 nations playing in the tournament. For our money, Siqueira nailed it. We'd love to have every one of these hanging on the walls of The18 headquarters. The posters blur the line between graphic art and street art.

The 11 Best Twitter Reactions To The Donovan Debacle

When news broke on Thursday that Landon Donovan had been left off the USMNT roster for World Cup 2014, the Internet basically had an aneurysm.

Twitter in particular exploded with every reaction imaginable, from name-calling, to whining, to anger, to applause for a decision well made. Depending on your point of view, Jurgen Klinsmann was either a national villain or hero.

"Real Men Wear Orange" And Other Awesome World Cup Slogans

At this year's World Cup in Brazil, Hyundai is bringing back a cool little campaign from the 2010 South African World Cup. Over the past several months, soccer fans have been able to submit slogans to the "Be There With Hyundai Contest." Ideas for World Cup slogans for fans' respective nations were submitted, voted on, and the winners will be placed on the side of each team's bus at the 2014 World Cup.

Was Leaving Landon Donovan Off The Squad A Mistake?

It’s been almost 24 hours since news broke about Landon Donovan being left off the 2014 USMNT World Cup squad. Reactions have been widespread throughout the soccer community and, on both sides, passionate to say the least. In case you've been living in a bunker for the past day (and, if you're Jürgen Klinsmann's son, you probably want to take cover in a bunker after dissing Donovan on Twitter), The18 lays out both sides of the argument.

Klinsmann Names His 23, Donovan Left Off

The United States' all-time leading goal scorer will not be going to Brazil. Landon Donovan was left off Jurgen Klinsmann’s 23-man roster for the World Cup, coming as a shock to most.

Donovan took a hiatus from the USMNT during World Cup qualifying and hasn’t been in the best form ever since. Klinsmann said that he would have to earn his spot back, which most thought he did in helping the U.S. win the Gold Cup last year.

What You Need To Know About Brazil's Preparations

About a month ago, we wrote about Brazil’s struggling preparation for the World Cup. Now, a little more than three weeks from the first match in Sao Paulo, the host country is fighting to complete everything in time.
