Misfiring USWNT stumble to Paris with disappointing 0-0 send-off draw vs. Costa Rica

The United States women’s national team will be competing for gold in under two weeks and have a major conundrum. They can’t find the back of the net.

On Tuesday the Stars and Stripes played their send-off game at Audi Field in Washington D.C. against Costa Rica, ranked 44th in the world, and drew 0-0.

The USWNT had struggled to score against Mexico in their 1-0 victory on Saturday, and the problems carried over to Tuesday’s friendly.

USWNT’s finishing a major concern following 1-0 Olympic tune-up victory vs. Mexico

The United States women’s national team defeated Mexico 1-0 on Saturday in a friendly ahead of the USWNT’s 2024 Olympics campaign. While the U.S. secured the victory, something they failed to do against Mexico in the W Gold Cup earlier this year, there’s still plenty of work to be done.

Finishing was perhaps the biggest issue for the USWNT on Saturday as they kept getting into promising positions in front of goal but couldn’t find the net. The U.S. recorded 17 shots, six on target and should've scored more than the one.

USWNT goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher says team has ‘new identity’ heading into Paris Olympics

NEW YORK — The Paris Olympics will give the U.S. women's soccer team a chance to begin a new chapter, goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher said on Wednesday, as the four time gold medallists look to regain their supremacy on the global stage.

The United States slipped to an all-time low fifth on the FIFA rankings last month after their worst Women's World Cup showing in 2023, when they exited in the round of 16.

Lindsey Horan says USWNT have regrouped since 2023 World Cup failure and ready for Olympics

Four-time Olympic soccer champions United States have put their disastrous Women's World Cup campaign in the rear view mirror, captain Lindsey Horan said on Monday, with young talent hungry to top the podium in Paris.

The Americans settled for bronze at the COVID-delayed Tokyo Games three years ago and captured their last gold in 2012.

They have pride on the line this time around after their worst showing at a Women's World Cup last year that saw them knocked out in the round of 16.

With no more friendlies left until Olympic roster reveal – which forwards will Emma Hayes bring to Paris?

United States women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes oversaw her first two games in charge and now must make the 18-player Olympic roster. One topic being hotly debated is who to bring as the forwards?

Perhaps a more appropriate question is how many forwards to bring? The USWNT has an Olympic-sized swimming pool kind of depth in attack. With only 18 players set to be on the plane to Paris, the decision is cutthroat.

Hayes led the USWNT to 4-0 and 3-0 victories against South Korea earlier this month and utilized all her forwards across the two games.

16-year-old Lily Yohannes shines with goalscoring debut in USWNT win over South Korea

A renovated U.S. women’s national team defeated South Korea once again in the second game of their pair of friendlies, with the USWNT having a pleasant rebuttal to their 4-0 win last Saturday.
