Chelsea defeated West Ham 2-1 on Saturday and narrowly escaped Stamford Bridge with three points. The Hammers thought they had tied the game at 2-2 in the 90th minute when Maxwel Cornet buried a shot into the Chelsea net.

A VAR review decided that Jarrod Bowen’s collision with Chelsea keeper Édouard Mendy moments before Cornet’s goal was enough to wipe away the goal.

A youth soccer match at the Graham County Fairgrounds in Safford, Arizona, ended with deputies being called to the scene after multiple reports of a parent tackling the referee before his 17-year-old son threatened the official with gun violence. 

According to witnesses, the referee was separating two players who were fighting on the field when the suspect, identified as Michael W. Goodwin, told the ref not to touch his son and tackled him.

While play in the National Women’s Soccer League is some of the best in the world (I’d argue it’s the best league top to bottom), we have to be honest and admit one thing is clearly holding the NWSL back: officiating. The NWSL has far too many mistakes by its referees, made all the worse by the fact there is no VAR (for now).

Gotham FC was the victim of a particularly horrible piece of officiating against Angel City on Sunday, as if the New York/New Jersey club needed any more bad luck this season. 

Chelsea defeated Everton 1-0 in the Blues' Premier League opener, however a horrifying Ben Godfrey injury early in the first half dampened the mood in Goodison Park.

In the 18th minute of the game Godfrey had to be stretchered off the field, put on oxygen and taken to the hospital after a terrifying injury to his right ankle while trying to make a tackle on Kai Havertz.

Fans are furious at the linesman for not seeing that the ball had clearly gone out of play moments before the injury.
