Sophia Smith is the only USWNT player nominated for 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or

Portland Thorns and United States women’s national team forward Sophia Smith received her first Ballon d’Or nomination in her career on Wednesday. The 23-year-old was the only American player to make the 30-woman nomination list.

For those who don’t know about the Ballon d’Or here’s a quick explanation. The annual award is given to the best women’s and men’s player in the world and is presented by France Football, a French news magazine. It’s the highest individual award a soccer player can earn.

Gregg Berhalter is back as head coach of the United States men’s national team and selected his 24-man roster for two September friendlies.

While the competition (Uzbekistan and Oman) won’t get fans all that excited, the 24 players that Berhalter selected will please most critics. In his return to the national team Berhalter pleasantly surprised USMNT supporters with a decent roster.

Spain defeated England 1-0 in the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday in Sydney, Australia, and became world champions for the first time in their history.

Shut up and take our money because we need a Pulisic AC Milan third kit ASAP

AC Milan released their third kit on Thursday and boy oh boy is my wallet about to feel this one. With the likes of Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah on the roster I, along with many other USMNT fans, have become a big Milan supporter.

I wasn’t entirely sure if I wanted to go all out and purchase a Pulisic Milan jersey, but the club might have just forced my hand with this new third kit.

The U.S. women’s defeat to Sweden on Sunday was the earliest exit from a World Cup in the team’s history.

Alexi Lalas says mid-tantrum that he doesn’t want to see good defending in MLS

Aug. 1 was an incredibly dark day for me personally. On that day I happened to agree with an opinion from Alexi Lalas. His thoughts on the United States women’s national team’s 0-0 draw with Portugal matched mine.

Stay up or wake up? Here’s a plan for each U.S. time zone on how to watch USWNT vs. Sweden

When FIFA made the bracket for the Women’s World Cup, they did so assuming the United States women’s national team would top their group.

If that had been the case, then the U.S. would’ve been playing South Africa in the Round of 16 at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday. If they won that game the quarterfinal match vs. the winner of Spain-Switzerland would be on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.

FIFA tried to make viewing the Women’s World Cup for American fans easy, however the lackluster group stage games from the USWNT put a wrench in those plans.

More upsets and shock exits at Women’s World Cup a sign of progress in women’s soccer says FIFA

SYDNEY — The unpredictability of results at the Women's World Cup, with former champions bowing out early and debutants advancing, is evidence that playing standards are improving across the board, FIFA's Technical Study Group (TSG) said on Friday.

The TSG analyzed data from the first 48 matches of the tournament and have concluded that defensive organization is better and goalkeepers are better positioned and making more saves, while fewer goals are being scored.

Inter Miami and Lionel Messi advanced to the Leagues Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday after defeating Orlando City 3-1 at DRV PNK Stadium. Messi scored twice in the victory, but that’s not the big discussion this time.

Some fans are questioning calls from the referee and joking that the tournament is rigged for Messi and Miami.

The two major incidents that raised eyebrows were a soft penalty call in Miami’s favor in the second half and the lack of a foul called against Messi.
