Nightmare Howler Costs U.S. Men Trip To Olympics

Chalk up another missed opportunity for the U.S. men’s soccer program to qualify for an international competition. For the third straight time, the U.S. men failed to qualify for the Olympics, losing 2-1 to Honduras after a horrific howler from the American keeper on Sunday evening in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Mexico’s Olympic Qualifying At Risk Over Homophobic Chant

Even during a pandemic, even with fewer spectators, El Tri fans can’t stop using a vile homophobic chant, and it could cost Mexico a spot at this summer’s Olympics.

FIFA confirmed on Friday it is investigating the continued use of the homophobic “puto” chant during the current Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which is being held in Jalisco, Mexico. El Tri could face forfeits, fines or playing without fans in future matches.

Five USMNT Players That Could've Played For Mexico At The Olympics

The dispute over dual nationality players escalated to a new magnitude before the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship as five players chose the USMNT over Mexico, although the Mexican federation was able to get Efraín Álvarez to play with Tata Martino's senior side.

Andonovski: Latest USWNT Roster Isn’t The Final Olympic Squad

United States women's head coach Vlatko Andonovski said on Tuesday he plans to name his squad for the Tokyo Olympics in mid-June as he waits to see how several players recover from injuries.

"We have roughly set the middle of June when we're going to know the (Olympic) roster," Andonovski told reporters after announcing a 23-player, veteran-heavy squad for April when the four-times World Cup winners have friendlies against Sweden and France.

Sebastián Córdova’s By Far The Best Player At The Concacaf Olympic Qualifiers

When listening to people discuss the merits of the U.S. U-23 side on a player-by-player basis, it’s interesting to take note of this particular ilk of big-brained soccer ‘splainer as nothing more than a snake oil salesman well-versed in misleading radar plots.

What I can tell you for sure is that they don’t know the strengths and weaknesses of 19-year-old João "Johnny" Lucas de Souza Cardoso, they don’t spend much time watching Internacional in the Brasileiro and their sage words of advice for Jason Kreis are worth even less than their 8K Twitter followers.

Hassani Dotson And Djordje Mihailovic Move U.S. One Step Closer To Olympics

After grinding out a win against Costa Rica last Thursday, the United States U-23s took care of business on Sunday night by beating the Dominican Republic 4-0 in Olympic qualifying at Estadio Akron. If Mexico beats or ties Costa Rica in Sunday’s later game, the U.S. is through to the semifinals. If Costa Rica wins, Wednesday’s group finale against Mexico takes on meaning again.

Concacaf’d: Haiti Forced To Start Match With 10 Men, Field Player In Goal Because Of Covid Testing Delays

It took less than two days for the Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship to go full Concacaf.

Haiti was forced to start its opener against Honduras with 10 men — including a field player at goalkeeper — after some Covid-19 testing snafus. Honduras took full advantage to score a 3-0 win over Haiti on Friday afternoon in Guadalajara, Mexico, the opening Group B match.

Only in Concacaf.

Ochoa, Ferreira Lift U.S. To Massive Win In Men’s Olympic Qualifying Opener

David Ochoa might not have been expected to be the first-choice keeper for the U.S. at the Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, but Jason Kreis is sure glad he went with the Real Salt Lake goalie in the USMNT’s opener. Ochoa made nine saves and Jesús Ferreira scored on the other end as the U.S. opened the qualifying tournament with a nervy 1-0 win over Costa Rica on Thursday in in Guadalajara, Mexico.
