The Last Time The USWNT Faced Canada In Olympic Semis, Team USA Got Really Lucky

The USWNT will face Concacaf rival Canada in the semifinals at the 2020 Olympics on Monday. It’s a rematch of a 2012 semifinal that may just have been the greatest Olympic soccer game of all time. As we get ready for USWNT vs Canada, let’s look back at that thriller from nine years earlier.

Spain, Ivory Coast Score 5 After 90th Minute In Wild Olympic Quarterfinal

TOKYO — Host Japan displayed nerves of steel as it edged out New Zealand 4-2 in a penalty shootout to reach the men's Olympic soccer semifinals on Saturday, while Spain survived a scare in an extra-time win over Ivory Coast.

After a goalless 120 minutes at the Ibaraki Kashima Stadium, New Zealand full back Liberato Cacace's penalty was saved by Kosei Tani and midfielder Clayton Lewis blasted his spot kick over the bar.

Mexico Avenges 2016 Defeat By Scoring Goal After Spectacular Goal To Crush South Korea 6-3

Mexico is one win away from its second Olympic medal in soccer after thrashing South Korea 6-3 on Saturday in Yokohama. A tight game burst into a rout after a stunning Luís Romo volley, and Sebastián Córdova put the game out of reach with a long-range golazo.

Mexico won gold in 2012 but failed to reach the knockout rounds in Brazil five years ago, heading home after a 1-0 defeat to South Korea in the final group-stage match. El Tri wasn’t about to bow out with another loss to South Korea.

Canada & Qatar Tried, But The Gold Cup Final Was Destined For A MEX-USA Rematch

USA vs. Qatar

Gyasi Zardes' goal in the 86th minute sent the U.S. men's national team to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup after a 1-0 semifinal victory against Qatar in Austin, Texas, on Thursday.

Zardes entered the match in the 63rd minute and the Columbus Crew forward scored his 14th international goal off a counter after pressure created a turnover.

If Ted Lasso Can Figure Out Offside, Why Has It Been So Hard For The USWNT To Stay Onside?

There’s a moment in “Ted Lasso” where the eponymous coach yells at an assistant referee: “How is that offside!? No, I’m asking you, seriously: Explain offside to me, it makes no sense!”

Part of me wonders if that scene was based on the true story of Vlatko Andonovski at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Andonovski’s USWNT has had nine goals called back for players being in offside positions in four matches at the 2020 Olympics. The U.S. has scored eight goals that actually counted.

It’s a major problem, but so far it’s yet to really cost Team USA.

Great Britain Is Coming Home Early After Australia Comes Alive Late

TOKYO — Canada reached the semifinals in women's soccer for the third consecutive Olympic Games as goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe saved two Brazil penalties in a 4-3 shootout win on Friday. Australia smashed Great Britain in extra time and Sweden knocked out host Japan.

After Canada captain Christine Sinclair's penalty was saved by Barbara, Labbe rescued her side with two diving saves to keep out Brazil's final two spot kicks from Andressa and Rafaelle.

Alyssa Naeher (3 PK Saves) Was The Hero The USWNT Really Effing Needed

The USWNT has been far from impressive at the Tokyo Olympics. The defense has been shaky, the midfield often overrun and the forwards unable to stay onside. But Team USA is through to the medal rounds thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, the one constant this tournament.

Japan’s Takefusa Kubo Is Playing Himself Into Real Madrid’s Plans For The Upcoming Season

HONG KONG - With crucial goals in each of Japan's three group games, Takefusa Kubo is delivering on his potential, as the Olympic Games hosts step up their chase for a place on the podium for the first time in over half a century.

Just as he had done in group phase wins over South Africa and Mexico, the 20-year-old opened the scoring for Japan in Wednesday's 4-0 victory over France to set up a quarterfinal meeting with New Zealand on Saturday.

Don’t Look Now U.S. Soccer Fans, But Thursday Night/Friday Morning Could Be The Darkest 12 Hours In History

U.S. Soccer morale isn’t too high across the board right now. On the women’s side the USWNT has done anything but impress at the 2020 Olympics with one decent performance and two horror shows. Meanwhile on the men’s side, the B-team is grinding out Gold Cup results and is preparing for its biggest challenge yet, Qatar.

USMNT

I’ve seen several posts online from fans in agreement that they would rather lose to Mexico 5-0 than fall to Qatar at home. I would have to agree in all honesty.

Apparel Company Gifts USWNT $1 Million For Equal Pay — Here’s What The Olympians Are Actually Making

Athletic apparel company Title Nine gifted the USWNTPA $1 million on Wednesday — the largest sum the players association has ever received — saying it’s to help solve the pay gap between the men’s and women’s national soccer teams. It’s an awesome gesture similar to when LUNA Bar made a large donation in 2019. What does it really mean for how much the USWNT is paid for the Olympics? Let’s dig in.
