There are trophies to be won all over the place in soccer, but no prominent belts. Until now.

A group of supporters of three MLS teams, Sporting Kansas City, FC Dallas and the Colorado Rapids, have created the Midwestia Belt, to be awarded to the best-performing team in head-to-head matchups between the three.

The season-within-the-season is formally known as the Midwestia Championship. It's modeled after the Cascadia Championship, a competition among the Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.

Steven Gerrard has been nothing if not genuine as he readies for his MLS debut. That, and funny. 

“I’m not David Beckham," Gerrard said. "I'm not as good looking as him.” 

Dry, dry humor, Stevie. 

In all seriousness, the Liverpool legend recently spoke out about he and the LA Galaxy, and if I were his teammates or an LA Galaxy fan, I would be incredibly excited after hearing him. 

Every season MLS puts together a squad of the best players in the league, as well as a group of homegrown players to take on some of the worlds best clubs. In the hodgepodge mixture of players from around the country, it is their opportunity to showoff their talents on a national stage. 

Atlanta United is off to a good start as far as celebrity fans are concerned. 

Ludacris was spotted at the team's logo unveiling wearing an Atlanta United scarf, which makes him officially the coolest person to ever put on an Atlanta United scarf. 

Hopefully Ludacris can inject a little swagger into the team after the dud of a name "Atlanda United" was announced.

Over the weekend L.A. Galaxy newcomer Steven Gerrard did something that should set him on the path to becoming as much of a Galaxy legend as he was at Liverpool: he bought the fans beer.

The internet is flooded with highlight videos. A player simply has to be young, talented, and make a couple cool plays in a season for someone to string those plays together in iMovie, throw some banal techno music over it, and produce one of them. I say this like I hate them, and in many ways I do, but I also cannot deny that watching these videos can be about as addicting as it gets.

After a lackluster season with Villarreal, it appears Mexican international Giovani Dos Santos is looking at a move to the MLS. 

His representatives has reportedly initiated talks with the LA Galaxy, although spokespeople for the franchise and the MLS have so far denied any interest in the Mexican. 

As Major League Soccer grows, so too do the rivalries and competitive spirit within the league. The attractiveness of MLS has grown every day since its introduction to America in the early 90s with the help of world-class players retiring to the league. 

In case you missed it, the LA Galaxy slaughtered the Portland Timbers by a commanding scoreline of 5-0 to jump ahead of them in the Western Conference.

Goal three came in the 32nd minute, after Robbie Keane delivered a beautiful feed to Robbie Rogers, who first-timed his shot after rounding from outside left. While increasing an advantage during a league MLS game doesn’t seem that newsworthy, this goal happened on a special night to the right person.
