MEXICO CITY — FIFA sanctioned the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) for the offensive chants the country's fans made during their matches at last year's World Cup by ordering it to play a game behind closed doors and fined it $108,000.

"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has fined FMF with a fine of CHF 100,000 and one match to be played behind closed doors in light of chants by Mexican supporters during the Mexico v. Poland and Saudi Arabia v. Mexico World Cup matches," FIFA said in a statement on Friday.

Once upon a time, there was a boy whose talent made a nation dream. He was not very tall, but with his nimble legs, speed and dribbling, he challenged giants and brought opponents to their knees.

The stories written about him said he would be a superstar ready to spread countless joyful stories among his fellow compatriots.

The name of this boy was Diego Lainez and his presence today is nothing more than the pale trail of a future that never materialized.

Mexican international and Cruz Azul defender Julio César Domínguez ("Cata") has gone viral after several photos of his 12-year-old son came to light. What's the fuss about the images? They show he threw the kid a narco-themed birthday celebration.

Yikes!

People were quick to criticize Domínguez online, calling him out for trying to glorify and praise criminal organizations that are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths around Mexico every year.
