BRUSSELS — The possibility of Kevin De Bruyne competing for Belgium in the European Championship remains unclear as he recovers from facial fractures, coach Roberto Martínez said on Wednesday.
The midfield talisman broke his nose and eye socket in a clash in the Champions League final last weekend but it would be days before Belgium were clear about his chances of competing, Martínez told reporters.
Chile and Inter Milan midfielder Arturo Vidal is recovering in hospital after contracting COVID-19, the Chilean national team announced on Tuesday.
A statement said that the 34-year-old tested positive for the virus after initially being hospitalised with severe tonsilitis.

BRUSSELS - Belgium’s Axel Witsel was included in the squad for next month’s European Championship with coach Roberto Martínez gambling the influential midfielder will be fit in time for the tournament.
Witsel, 32, had surgery on an Achilles tendon injury suffered with Borussia Dortmund in January and has not played since but has been a key part of Belgium's lineup, winning the last of his 110 caps against England last November.
“Witsel is recovering well and working really hard to be completely fit and is ahead of his recovery schedule," Martínez told reporters on Monday.
On Saturday, Real Madrid issued a medical report on captain Sergio Ramos after the center back missed training ahead of Sunday’s key LaLiga clash against Sevilla. According to the club, Ramos is suffering from tendinitis in his left hamstring and won’t be available against his former team.
