The referee crew for the Women’s World Cup final has three Americans with Tori Penso being the head referee. Her two lineswoman and fellow Americans are Brooke Mayo and Kathryn Nesbitt.

13-year-old Da’vian Kimbrough becomes youngest pro in U.S. history, signs with Sacramento

Sacramento Republic FC of the United Soccer League made history on Tuesday by signing a 13-year-old player to a professional contract.

Da'vian Kimbrough, who is 13 years, 5 months and 13 days old, signed with Sacramento to become the youngest pro player in U.S. soccer history. The record most recently belonged to Maximo Carrizo, who signed with New York City FC's senior squad on his 14th birthday in February 2022.

The club also claims that Kimbrough is the youngest professional athlete in American team sports history.

Colombia’s celebrations after booking a trip to the quarterfinals were amazing

MELBOURNE — A second-half goal by Catalina Usme fired Colombia to a 1-0 win over Jamaica on Tuesday and carried the South Americans to their first Women's World Cup quarterfinal.

The captain's 51st-minute strike sent Colombian fans into delirium at a packed Melbourne Rectangular Stadium and ensured the last American team in the tournament will battle England for a place in the last four.

"We are representing the whole continent of South America," Colombia coach Nelson Abadia told reporters.

USMNT striker Matthew Hoppe set to join San Jose Earthquakes on 12-month loan

The San Jose Earthquakes acquired U.S. men's national team forward Matthew Hoppe on a 12-month loan from England's Middlesbrough F.C.

Hoppe, 22, is coming off a loan to Scotland's Hibernian F.C. He has also played with Mallorca in Spain and Schalke 04 in Germany.

Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has retired from football, the 45-year-old announced on Wednesday, after 28 years in which he reached exceptional milestones for club and country.

Buffon, who in 2006 lifted the World Cup, won 10 Serie A titles with Juventus and a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.

First woman to manage pro English men's team replaced after two weeks

Forest Green Rovers coach Hannah Dingley's spell as the first woman to manage a men's professional football team in England will come to an end this week after the fourth-tier club appointed David Horseman as their new head coach.

Dingley, who has a UEFA pro licence, was appointed as caretaker head coach earlier this month following Duncan Ferguson's exit. She was also the only woman to manage a club academy in the English men's league.
