Hugo Lloris Pleads Guilty To DUI, Fined $65,000 After Driving Over Twice The Legal Limit

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was reminded the hard way that fame and fortune does not make you immune to the law.

The Frenchman, who captained his country to World Cup victory this summer, pleaded guilty to a drunk-driving charge on Wednesday. He will have to pay a $65,000 fine and is banned from getting behind the wheel for 20 months.

France Takes Top Spot While Germany Plummets In The Latest FIFA Rankings

Football's governing body updated its August FIFA rankings of national teams this week and, surprise surprise, there were some big moves. We are just over a month removed from the World Cup, and you would like to think FIFA has spent a long time deliberating over who should be ranked where. 

World Cup winner France takes the top spot, jumping up six spots to now be the top dog in international soccer. Belgium, the bronze medallist at the World Cup, is in second place, but only three points behind France. Brazil dropped one spot to round out the top three.

David Silva Joins Gerard Pique And Andres Iniesta In International Retirement

At the age of 32, David Silva has announced his retirement from international football after collecting 125 caps and scoring 35 goals for the Spanish national team. Silva was a member of the squads that won Euro 2008, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2012. At Euro 2012, Silva started all six of Spain’s matches and scored the opening goal of the final against Italy.
