Schalke’s epic Bundesliga losing streak ended one game shy of the all-time record thanks to American teenager Matthew Hoppe scoring a hat trick to beat Hoffenheim 4-0 won Saturday.

If These Muddy Highlights From Portugal’s Top Flight Don’t Bring Back Memories, You Didn’t Play Soccer Growing Up

Play soccer long enough and you’ll compete in all sorts of weather. Rain, wind, snow, sleet, sand — I have stories of playing in them all, and I’m sure you do too. One of the best (or worst) conditions to play in was on full display on Friday with this muddy game in Portugal between Nacional and Sporting Lisbon at the Estádio de Madeira.

Unlike youth soccer fields, most top-flight pitches are kept in pristine order throughout the year. But on occasion even the best leagues have matches played in the worst conditions.

The One Club That Wants Schalke To End Winless Run More Than Schalke

BERLIN — It is said that any publicity is good publicity and there is one club in Germany that currently lives and breathes by this adage more than any other.

Amateurs Tasmania Berlin have held on to the record for the longest winless streak in the Bundesliga for more than half a century and the Berlin club are desperate to protect it with Schalke 04 only a game away from matching their 31-game run.

While other teams would have buried that statistic deep in the annals, Tasmania's disastrously brief spell in the top division in 1965-66 has been a source of pride for them.

England’s Lower Leagues Want Season Halted, Declared Null And Void As Pandemic Grows Ever Deadlier

Three of English soccer's minor leagues said on Friday they wanted their season halted and declared null and void due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Southern, Northern Premier and Isthmian Leagues — whose clubs form the seventh and eight tiers of the soccer system — issued a joint statement reviewing the implications of the latest government lockdown.

Miami Fires Diego Alonso, Paving The Way For Beckham Buddy Phil Neville

England Women's team manager Phil Neville is in talks with Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer club owned by his former Manchester United teammate and friend David Beckham, who sacked manager Diego Alonso on Thursday.

Sue Campbell, the English FA's director of women's football, told the BBC Neville would lead the Team GB soccer side at this year's Tokyo Olympics unless he took the Miami job. Neville's England deal ends in July.

Weston McKennie Seals Massive Victory For Juventus With Goal At The San Siro

Weston McKennie helped Juventus hand AC Milan its first league loss of the season on Wednesday after scoring a key goal in a 3-1 victory.

Juventus traveled to Milan to play the league leaders at the famous San Siro. The defending champions struck first in the 18th minute courtesy of a filthy assist from Paulo Dybala to find Federico Chiesa.

Lionel Messi Was Unspeakably Good In Barcelona’s Win Over Athletic Club

Maybe you were watching Manchester United vs. Manchester City in the Carabao Cup (why?). Maybe you were watching the fall of the U.S. Capitol (that’s more sensible). Either way, you missed Lionel Messi crafting a staggering monument to his own genius on the San Mamés pitch Wednesday during Barcelona’s 3-2 LaLiga victory over Athletic Club

Antwerp Player Shows Up Wearing Rival’s Shirt To Force Transfer. They Don’t Let Him In

Royal Antwerp forward Didier Lamkel Ze has apologized after showing up at the Belgian club's training ground this week wearing the shirt of their bitter rivals Anderlecht in an attempt to force a transfer.

The Cameroon international was denied entry by Antwerp's security staff, with images of the incident quickly going viral. Lamkel Ze, who wants to join Greek side Panathinaikos, also took to social media to say he would wear the shirt of Antwerp's local rivals Beerschot if the club did not allow him to leave.

Cyle Larin Scores 4 Of The Most Opportunistic Goals You’ll Ever See In 1 Match

Beşiktaş has reclaimed top spot in the Süper Lig after thrashing Rizespor 6-0 at Vodafone Arena on Wednesday. Canadian striker Cyle Larin had his greatest day in a Beşiktaş shirt, scoring four goals to give him 10 in 15 league appearances this season.

After a slow start to life in Europe, the 25-year-old has now scored five goals in his last three appearances to put the continent on notice. While we’re very pleased for Larin and Canada, three of his goals today were the result of a comedy of errors from Rizespor.

Arsenal’s Mesut Özil Agrees To Fenerbahçe Move

Fenerbahçe will sign German midfielder Mesut Özil from Arsenal for three and a half years for an undisclosed fee, Turkey's private Demirören news agency and other Turkish media reported on Wednesday.

While there was no immediate comment on the reports from Fenerbahçe, broadcaster A Spor said Özil and the club had agreed on the transfer in principle and that the 32-year-old would join the former Turkish champions later in January.
