Spain confirms 15 players will be left off women's team roster for friendlies vs. USWNT and Sweden

MADRID — Spain women's coach Jorge Vilda on Friday left out of his squad the 15 players who have reportedly told the Spanish FA (RFEF) they would quit international duty while he is in charge.

According to sources close to the situation, the players are unhappy with the management of injuries, the atmosphere in the locker room, Vilda's team selection and training sessions.

Denmark’s World Cup kit designs are a powerful anti-Qatar protest

Hummel, the designer for Denmark’s World Cup kits, released the Danish jerseys on Wednesday with a message to host nation Qatar. Hummel announced that the kits they designed are in memory of the thousands of migrant workers who died building Qatar’s World Cup infrastructure.

"While we support the Danish national team all the way, this shouldn't be confused with support for a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives,” Hummel’s statement said.

History will be made Sunday when Ferrieri Caputi becomes Serie A's first female ref

Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi will become the first female official to take charge of a Serie A match when Sassuolo host Salernitana on Sunday, the Italian Referees' Association (AIA) said.

Ferrieri Caputi became the first woman to officiate a top-level Italian match last year when Cagliari played Cittadella in the Coppa Italia. She joined Serie A's officiating team in July.

"This is a historic moment," AIA president Alfredo Trentalange told a news conference on Wednesday.

Defensive midfielder Douglas Luiz came metaphorically studs up on social media after a famous Brazilian TV journalist shared a disrespectful post on Twitter objectifying Aston Villa Women FC star Alisha Lehmann, who is also Luiz's girlfriend.

Milton Neves, a 71-year-old presenter, tweeted a clip of Lehmann celebrating a goal a la Cristiano Ronaldo, but in slow-motion and with the camera focusing on the player's derrière. An Under-18 international between France and Poland was abandoned with 13 minutes remaining when the French were reduced to seven players after they picked up four red cards at the Limoges tournament on Sunday.

France and Poland were drawing 2-2 – a result that would have guaranteed France victory in the tournament – after 27 minutes following a frantic start, before the hosts lost the plot after the break.

Vivianne Miedema scored twice in Arsenal's commanding 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in front of a Women's Super League record crowd of 47,367 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
