Safe Hands Under Stress: The Crucial Saves That Defined A Week Of Big Games

Despite all the hype, cup finals and semifinals tend to disappoint. Nerves take hold of the players, and the play on the pitch is dictated by a fear of losing rather than a desire to win. These matches become cagey affairs defined by midfield battles and long clearances, both caused by an aversion to conceding.

This week was different. The FA Cup final was an end-to-end affair, the notoriously-prudent EFL Championship playoff semifinals were both entertaining affairs and the Europa League final was an emotive footballing masterclass.

FA Condemns ‘Anti-Social Behavior’ Of Fans Invading Pitches

The English Football Association is investigating all incidents of fans invading the field and has condemned their "anti-social behaviour" as completely unacceptable.

The FA's statement comes after Everton fans invaded the pitch at Goodison Park following Dominic Calvert-Lewin's 85th-minute winner and at the final whistle of Thursday's 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace, which secured their spot in the Premier League next season.

Sheffield United Captain Bloodied By Fan After Forest Supporters Invade Pitch In Celebration

Nottinghamshire Police on Wednesday arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of assault after Sheffield United's Billy Sharp was attacked on the pitch at the end of the second leg of their Championship playoff semifinal at Nottingham Forest.

Forest supporters ran onto the pitch when the hosts sealed a 3-2 win on penalties, after the tie was locked 3-3 on aggregate. Television cameras showed an individual approach Blades striker Sharp on the sidelines and attack him.

Don’t Say ‘Who Cares’ — Blackpool Player Coming Out Is A Big Deal

I can already see the responses on our Facebook page.

“Who cares?”

“Stop pushing your woke culture.”

“If you want to be gay, why do we have to hear about it?”

Here’s why you should care.

Blackpool forward Jake Daniels announced he is gay on Monday, becoming the first active male professional British footballer to do so since 1990. The last to do so? Justin Fashanu, who committed suicide eight years later.

Injury Impact: The 5 Most Impactful Absences In European Soccer This Season

When we think of injuries in soccer and of their repercussions, we often think of big names at big clubs. But oftentimes it is the absence of important players at mid-sized clubs that has the biggest impact on performance.

Larger clubs have the depth to replace even the most talented of players; most teams do not. This list of most impactful injuries this season will include one or two big names, but it also features several footballers that sometimes go unnoticed.

Hatters, Terriers, and Star Players: Previewing The Championship Playoffs

By Championship standards, the end of the 2021-22 regular season was rather anticlimactic. There were no relegation deciders as in 20-21, and no dramatic fights for automatic promotion like the year before. This season, on the final day, four teams were fighting to secure two playoff spots, but in the end, there were no changes to the final table.

World’s Greenest Football Club Promoted To EFL League One For First Time

Forest Green Rovers have long been an example for other clubs to follow for being the most environmentally conscious club in the world. Now they’re making waves on the pitch, too.

The world’s greenest football club earned promotion to EFL League One for the first time ever thanks to a 0-0 draw with Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The Rovers currently lead EFL League Two with 83 points, and Saturday’s point was enough to clinch a top-three place and promotion to League One.

A Club Marked For Death: Derby County's Battle For Survival Being Fought On And Off The Pitch

After a chaotic final day of the 2020-21 EFL Championship campaign — during which Derby County was relegated, safe, relegated, then finally safe again, all within the space of 90 minutes — the Rams had secured their status as a Championship side.

At least that's what the final table said. The club still awaited judgment from the EFL regarding serious breaches of financial fair play regulations. In the end, the Rams were spared a points deduction and stayed in the second tier.

Football In The Margins: The Divisive History Of The Long Throw-In And Its Auspicious Future

When Cheltenham Town hosted Manchester City in the FA Cup Fourth Round in January 2021, victory was all but assured for the Premier League club.

The Robins — who would go on to win League Two that year — were no match for a Man City side that sat atop the English football pyramid. Yet early in the second half, the match at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium was still scoreless.

Andy Carroll Hits 2 Contenders For Goal Of The Season, But Both Are Ruled Out For Offside

Relegation-threatened Reading got absolutely hammered by promotion hopefuls Fulham in the Championship on Tuesday — losing 7-0 at the Madejski to braces from Harry Wilson and Aleksandar Mitrović and further goals from Kenny Tete, Neeskens Kebano and Tosin Adarabioyo.

In a poetically fitting way, Reading's 33-year-old striker Andy Carroll also had two outrageous efforts ruled out for being clearly offside.
