Fresh off blowing a two-goal lead in a draw with Atlético Madrid in the Champions League at midweek, Juventus conceded an early penalty kick back at home to Hellas Verona in Serie A. What then transpired was a ridiculous Miguel Veloso goal vs Juventus, the exact same type of bullshit that makes you hate and love the FIFA video game series at the same time.
And Juventus isn’t even in FIFA 20.
The play all started in the 19th minute when Merih Demiral allowed Samuel Di Carmine to jump in front of him and be bundled over by the Juve defender. The referee pointed to the spot and Di Carmine immediately grabbed the ball to ensure it was his penalty kick.
Then all hell broke loose.
With Gianluigi Buffon in goal — he was on the bench against Atleti — Di Carmine smashed his penalty kick off the left upright. Then Darko Lazovic followed that up by slamming a shot off the crossbar before Buffon could even get up from his initial dive.
Moments later, the Miguel Veloso goal vs Juventus stunned the crowd in Turin, a gobsmackingly venomous hit from nearly 30 yards out.
Miguel Veloso Goal vs Juventus
MADNESS!
Verona hit the post on the penalty and hit the crossbar on the rebound, but moments later Miguel Veloso volleyed home! pic.twitter.com/QBDwMhq0fb— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) September 21, 2019

Maybe Miguel Veloso should’ve taken the penalty kick and saved us all the roller coaster of emotions that took place over those 20 seconds. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been the victim or beneficiary of a goal like this in FIFA, although usually I’m the one who hits the post twice and the opponent rips a ridiculous shot from distance that ends up in the back of the net.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Old Lady. Aaron Ramsey equalized about 10 minutes later thanks to a fortunate deflection and the match was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Contrary to the ESPN FC tweet, Saturday was not Ramsey’s Juve debut, just his first start. As a former Arsenal player, he was guilty of not playing defense on a corner kick to allow Atlético Madrid to score its late equalizer on Wednesday in the Champions League.
