Bitter Englishman: Pulisic to Chelsea

Christian Pulisic is the savior of American soccer, this much we know. Have you seen the kid dunk?!

But I am not pleased with his transfer to Chelsea.

As an Englishman, and a bitter one at that, I should be happy to see the youngest, brightest talent to grace American football pitches since Freddy Adu come to the league of my countrymen.

But of all teams, did Pulisic really have to go to Chelsea?

Chelsea isn’t exactly a club that gives its young talent a chance to shine.

This is the club that decided Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne weren’t good enough for the Premier League, the club that didn’t give Daniel Sturridge or Romelu Lukaku a chance to shine, the club that has more loan players than I have beard hairs.

And now Pulisic is one of those loan players, having moved back to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the (2018-19) season.

Will Pulisic be given a chance to show his worth with Chelsea?

Or will he be unceremoniously dumped, like de Bruyne and Salah, now two of the best players in England?

It’s impossible to predict, but you know if he went to a club like Tottenham, Arsenal or Manchester United, clubs that respect youth players, he would be given more of a chance. Or hell, he could’ve gone to the American favorite Fulham and been a club legend.

But with Chelsea, Pulisic is taking a massive gamble.

The team changes coaches about every five seconds, so unless he makes himself indispensable, there’s no guarantee he’ll see regular playing time.

But mostly, I think Pulisic should’ve joined Everton.

Since Tim Howard left and Landon Donovan’s loan expired, we haven’t had much to cheer about for the Toffees. Now Howard is balding for the Colorado Rapids and Donovan is playing indoor soccer in San Diego.

Everton fans need more joy. I need more joy. I need Christian Pulisic.
