Evgeni Chernov deserves a raise after making perhaps the best double save of all time.
He’ll have to settle for three points.
Chernov and his FC Rostov crew traveled to Moscow to play Lokomotiv Moscow on Saturday and came away with a 2-1 victory over last season’s runners-up. The Muzhiki (translates to Tough Guys) have Chernov to thank for the win.
A 26-year-old left back, Chernov made an unbelievable double save to deny Lokomotiv, and we’re still trying to wrap our heads around that second block.
First, Chernov raced back to his goal line to stop a looping header from going into his net. Then the defender scrambled threw his body back to the goal line to block a second effort from Luka Djordjevic.
If this isn’t the best double save ever, then it’s at least the best double save by a non-goalkeeper.
The slow-motion replay does a great job of showing how quickly Chernov reacted to make the second save before Djordjevic could bury what he thought would be an easy goal.
Thanks to Chernov’s heroic efforts, Rostov won behind two goals from Eldor Shomurodov, holding on despite a late strike from Lokomotiv’s Anton Miranchuk.
