The USWNT steamrolled New Zealand 5-0 at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati last night in front of an announced crowd of 30,596. Goals from Lindsey Horan, Mallory Pugh, Lynn Williams and a brace for Alex Morgan saw the States claim their second victory over the Kiwis in the space of five days following their 3-1 win in Commerce City, Colorado last Friday.
Morgan’s second, coming in the 69th minute to put the U.S. up by five, was probably the pick of the bunch. After taking one touch near the edge of the area, the Orlando City striker unleashed an unstoppable drive off the crossbar and in from a tight angle.
The USWNT has now won four straight dating back to their 1-0 loss to Australia to begin Tournament of Nations play. Morgan has now scored four goals over that stretch while Mal Pugh, 19, has added two of her own.
The USWNT return to action in October with a pair of friendlies against South Korea in Louisiana and North Carolina.
