Why Didn’t Real Madrid Wear White Against Bayern?

Real Madrid did something you might have noticed in the first leg of its Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich — Los Blancos wore their black kit instead of their traditional white kit. Despite the colors of white and Bayern Munich’s red not clashing, Real Madrid stepped onto the Allianz Arena turf decked out in its black away kit. But why did Madrid wear that kit despite no color clash?

Well, it turns out Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is quite the superstitious fellow. Last season in the Champions League, Bayern faced Real Madrid in the quarterfinals. The first leg of that was held at Allianz Arena, and Madrid won that game 2-1. Guess what color kit they were wearing? Their black away kit.

Yep, fast forward a little more than a year later and pretty much the same thing happened. Zidane had to make a special request to UEFA just so Madrid could wear its black away kit.

Is that over the top? Maybe. But if it means Real Madrid has a strong chance of going through to the final of the UEFA Champions League (again), then who are we to judge?
