Watch Liverpool and Middlesbrough In An Epic, 30 PK Shootout

This penalty shootout might go down in the books as one of the greatest of all time. Or, at least, the longest.

Liverpool and Middlesbrough just played in one of the all-time great matches.

Knotted at 1-1 at full time, and again knotted at 2-2 after extra time, the game went into penalties.

That in itself is not so strange. Those are the rules.

Two goals in extra time is pretty interesting, but on the whole it is not unheard of. What is unheard of, though, is what happened next.

The Gerrard-less Liverpool squad finally held off Middlesbrough in the shootout by a score of…14-13.

The teams took 30 penalties between them. The shootout lasted longer than all three "Lord of the Rings" movies combined. At least, that's what it felt like.

In nearly any other penalty shootout, Middlesbrough would have been good enough to win. However, Liverpool was just a touch better.

Fourteen out of 15 penalties is pretty ridiculous against a goalkeeper who is being paid money to stop them.
