United's Captain Mike Smalling. Errr... Chris Smalling!

It's a hard job to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of every individual player, but you would think remembering their names would be the easy part. Not for van Gaal.

Choosing who will lead your squad on the pitch as captain can be a difficult decision as a Premier League manager, especially when you can’t remember their name.

In a pre-match interview with for the International Champions Cup, Louis van Gaal was accompanied by Chris Smalling to answer media questions. While explaining the change of captaincy from Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick (or Carrot as the Dutch manager likes to say) to Chris Smalling, van Gaal had a slight bump in his thought process.

Manchester United’s newest skipper, Mike Smalling, laughed off van Gaal’s mistake in a light-hearted way. This isn’t the first time the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach has had trouble with names and pronunciations. But who could blame him. He grew up in Holland, and has taken his talents all over Europe facing many language barriers.

Either way, it’s still fun to have a laugh with van Gaal’s crazy pronunciations.

The Premier League’s newest club, Queen’s Park Raisins.

And of course, the deadly midfielder who sprouts out of the ground, Michael Carrot.
