For the second year running, Liverpool fans voted on Twitter in droves for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva to win Lazio’s player of the season.

Lucas spent 11 years at Liverpool, making 247 league appearances over that time, and was a fan favorite while at the club because of endless motor and constant hustle.
The poll was a landslide victory for Lucas, garnering 94 percent of the vote, while center back Francesco Acerbi took the other six percent.

This was an even more convincing victory than the previous season, in which Leiva won 70 percent of the vote. What makes last season's win even more remarkable is that he was competing with Italian star Ciro Immobile, who scored 41 goals in 47 appearances, and Lucas still won 40 percent more of the vote than Immobile.

Personally I believe that the award should have gone to the Serbian tank Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who at just 24 years old has become one of the most dominant midfielders in Serie A. Milinkovic-Savic came off the bench in the Italian Cup final, scoring the header goal that would spur a 2-0 victory to win the title.
That being said, Lucas had a solid season himself, winning man of the match on two different occasions. It seems like as long as Lucas is on Lazio the award will be his, and with Lucas Leiva’s contract set to expire in 2022, it could be a long time until another Lazio player has a chance at the award.
