Colombia Earned A Draw With Mexico Because Of This Thunderbomb

Daniela Montoya’s laser snatched two crucial points away from the Mexicans in their opening match.

These are the full highlights from Mexico’s 1-1 draw with Colombia on Tuesday in Moncton, which you must watch on YouTube, because FIFA is a terrible organization. However, you can watch the equilizer below, which is good, because it's the goal of the World Cup so far.

Trailing 1-0 in the 82nd minute, Colombia’s Daniela Montoya unleashed all hell and dragonfire. Her rocket hit the underside of the crossbar and plummeted across the goal line for the equalizer.

And here’s another angle…

Unfortunately for Mexico, the loss of two crucial points could wind up sending them home early from a group where France and England are favorites to advance.

Obviously with two games remaining, Mexico can still climb through to the knockouts, but Montoya’s howitzer is especially sad for the Mexicans because Veronica Perez twisted in a moment of her own earlier in the match.

The World Cup has been fantastic so far - excluding the television production quality and the  streaming service, which to this point have been damp ass. It’s had some home-nation controversy, a scorefest between Sweden and Nigeria, President Megan Rapinoe, and lots of goals (more than 40 in 12 games). It’s a great look for the tournament and for the sport, even if its American television partners won’t do it any favors.
