World Cup Social Media Roundup: Day 14

The morning games on Wednesday at the World Cup provided all the excitement one could ask for as the defending champs crashed out with Cho Hyun-Woo stopping everything that came his way while winning over the hearts of Mexico as he helped them secure a spot in the knockout stage despite a rough outing versus Sweden.

The afternoon proved less exciting as Brazil took care of business while knocking out Serbia, but Switzerland and Costa Rica had an interesting finish. A back and forth game finished in a 2-2 draw, good enough for a second place Group E finish for the Swiss.

Here are the best takes on the action from Day 14 from World Cup social media.

World Cup Social Media Roundup

Germany vs. South Korea

This game could be defined by three major points: Germany's inability to be effective in the final third, South Korea's wall in net, Cho Hyun Woo, and some VAR drama to give South Korea the first of its two stoppage time goals.

Mexico vs. Sweden

Mexico fans will be happy with the fact they advanced but the real story here has to be the fact that Sweden is starting to look like a real threat.

Switzerland vs. Costa Rica

Costa Rica came out FLYING in this match but Switzerland got an early goal to deflate Los Ticos. The Costa Rican's fought back for 1-1 before a late goal from the Swiss made it 2-1. However, Costa Rica was not to be denied a point as a 93rd-minute PK made it 2-2. In spite of the result, the Swiss booked their matchup against Sweden in the Round of 16.

Brazil vs. Serbia

Serbia was executing its game plan well in the early going but a beautiful ball from Philippe Coutinho set up Paulinho for the opening goal. From then on Brazil was able to tame the Serbs and cement itself at the top of Group E. Also Neymar dove ... a lot.
