If you’re not on social media that much, then you should know that there’s an inside joke going around about Major League Soccer always having some of the most ridiculous goals scored on a weekly basis.
Fans are constantly greeted with a new highlight of a random MLS player scoring a bicycle kick, volley or long-range rocket.
While most American soccer fans were watching the USMNT blow it against Panama on Wednesday night, there were still a handful of MLS games played. And yes, there are incredible goals to report.
The winner for best goal from Wednesday’s action goes to either the Chicago Fire’s Xherdan Shaqiri or San Jose Earthquakes left back Miguel Trauco.
Let’s look at the goals.
Shaqiri goal vs Montreal
Up first is the Swiss international’s screamer from over 25 yards out. The Fire had a clever free kick routine that they had practiced on the training ground and Shaqiri capitalized with a thunderous effort.

Shaqiri hasn’t had the major impact fans were hoping to see since joining last season. At the start of this season, he was the highest paid player in MLS at $8.1 million a year.
This goal is the Swiss magic fans were hoping to see. It’s his third goal of the season.
Chicago won the game 3-0.
Trauco goal vs Seattle Sounders
Trauco’s goal was an amazing display of technical ability as he volleyed home an effort from distance directly off a corner kick. This is the kind of volley that players dream of scoring before they go to bed at night.
OMG they really pulled this off.

San Jose went on to win 2-0.
Which goal do you think is the best?
MLS produces top-quality goals like an assembly line so it’s only right we include Matt Polster’s strike from distance on Wednesday in this article.
