We’ve seen how successful and interesting behind-the-scenes documentaries on professional soccer clubs have been. Amazon’s “All or Nothing” and Hulu’s “Welcome to Wrexham” come to mind as the latest success stories.
Now HBO is getting in on the action with their latest soccer docuseries “Angel City” which will follow the Los Angeles-based club’s inaugural season in the National Women’s Soccer League.
“Angel City” will be released in three parts and starts with the inception of the team by actress Natalie Portman (who's also an executive producer of the series), venture capitalist Kara Nortman and gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman before continuing through the team’s 2022 season.

The series will be released on HBO and HBO Max. The first episode comes out on May 16, the second on May 17 and the final episode on May 18.
“Angel City” showcases the largest majority female ownership group in professional sports and includes appearances and interviews from Abby Wambach, Mia Hamm, Serena Williams, Billie Jean King, Becky G, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, America Ferrera and more.
Star players like Christen Press, Jun Endo, Sydney Leroux and more will be featured too. This also means we’ll have to watch the devastating moment Press tore her ACL back in June 2022 against Racing Louisville. Make sure to have tissues at the ready.
Angel City’s first season in NWSL saw them just miss out on the playoffs but record the best home attendance in the league. In their first season the club consistently filled Banc of California Stadium (now BMO Stadium) with an average attendance of 19,105.
