Twitter Unearths The Greatest Goal Of The 20th Century

Manchester City was playing some beautiful stuff long before Pep Guardiola came to town.

Thanks to the always brilliant Twitter account @forgottengoals, we’ve been introduced to what’s surely one of the greatest goals of yesteryear.

From what I can gather, this is a 1987-88 FA Cup Fourth Round match between Blackpool and Manchester City at Bloomfield Road, played on January 30, 1988. Blackpool — then and still a third division side — took a late lead in the 83rd minute, but First Division Manchester City forced a replay with just seconds remaining following a goalmouth scramble that resembled the bump and grind of a high school homecoming dance.

Here it is in all its glory, complete with City fans in the away end going absolutely mental.

Contrasted with City’s 6-1 win over Huddersfield today, it’s hard to say that Pep Guardiola has really shifted the Citizens’ playing style for the better.
