We’ve Discovered Why CD Leganés Is In Last Place In LaLiga

It’s been a pretty disastrous start to the LaLiga season for Madrid-based CD Leganés. This is the club’s fourth consecutive season in the Spanish top flight but after achieving its highest-ever finish last campaign (13th), Los Pepineros look destined for a drop to the Segunda División.

With the club languishing in last place, manager Mauricio Pellegrino was sacked on Oct. 21 following a winless streak of nine matches. Mexican manager Javier Aguirre was appointed on Nov. 4 and he’s now tasked with saving this sinking ship.

Leganés has captured only five points from 12 games (1W-2D-9L) and currently boasts the division’s joint-worst defense. Aguirre’s first order of business will be to improve on the methods of his predecessor, who liked to get a little freaky out there.

To be honest, we’re not sure if this was being used as a dynamic warmup or if it was punishment for not recording a first victory until Oct. 26. At least it sounds like the players are enjoying themselves out there despite getting thumped harder than they did at the Bernabéu

Aguirre’s first match in charge is a trip to the Anoeta on Friday to play highflying Real Sociedad. The Basque club is in third place.
