This is, without a doubt, my favorite time of the year. On Sunday, the FC Bayern Munich squad made its annual trip Oktoberfest, which is perhaps the greatest tradition in all of sports. I would play for Bayern Munich just for this reason. I would also drink five steins of Hofbräu Dunkel Weizen, miss practice the next day, get sent to train with the reserves and be the subject of an article on The18 entitled “Whatever Happened To Connor Fleming? A Case Of Too Much Dunkel,” but that’s besides the point.
I love images of Thomas Müller behaving exactly like your crazy uncle, the team outfitted in lederhosen from the socks to the nut sack (as Denzel Curry would say) and wondering if Niklas Süle can consume as much beer as Andre the Giant.
It’s a magical time, only made more magical by recent news that 414 people were caught riding e-scooters while under the influence, resulting in 254 people losing their licenses.
Here’s Bayern at Oktoberfest. It should’ve been a massive celebration following the 7-2 victory over Tottenham in the Champions League, but the Bavarian giants followed that up with a 2-1 home loss to Hoffenheim on Saturday. Still, with the international break on the horizon, we'd be willing to bet that things got a little loose.
Now some photos.
Here’s manager Niko Kovac trying to drown the sorrows of the Hoffenheim defeat.
Here’s Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge thinking about how to fire Kovac.
Here’s Manuel Neuer enjoying his beer before presumably talking shit about Marc-André ter Stegen.
There goes Andre the Giant.
Müller standing on an iron grate, being his crazy uncle self.
Javi Martinez is a man of wealth and taste.
Serge Gnabry and hat.
Something about Ivan Perišić seems entirely built for Oktoberfest.
Prost.
