Semifinal in Mexico's second tier ends with keeper punting one in from over 100 yards out

The 2023 Liga de Expansión MX (Mexico's second division) Clausura Final is set with Tapatío and Atlético Morelia emerging from their respective sides of the playoff bracket.

The semifinal between Atlético Morelia and Celaya (the regular season leaders) was particularly noteworthy with 15,349 attending Sunday's second leg at Estadio Miguel Alemán Valdés after a 1-1 first leg draw.

Celaya took a 2-1 aggregate lead in the 30th-minute but Atlético Morelia scored three second-half goals to advance 4-2 on aggregate.

The best one didn't arrive until 90+2' when Celaya, trailing 3-2 at the time, sent everyone forward searching for an equalizer off a corner kick. Remarkably, it was Celaya goalkeeper Guillermo Allison who got his head on the delivery and forced a save out of Morelia keeper Santiago Ramírez. But with Allison now stranded in Morelia's half, Ramírez put the game on ice by thumping a punt over 100 yards and into Celaya's unmanned net.

That's one hell of a way to secure your spot in the final.

Morelia's other two goals were also very good.

José Flores made it 2-2 on aggregate in the 46th-minute with a golazo.

Then Jonny Uchuari gave Morelia a 3-2 lead in the 52nd with a bullet.

The final between Morelia and Tapatío is two legs with the first on May 17 and the second on May 20.
