Riyad Mahrez scored a brilliant goal for Leicester City during their preseason friendly against Celtic, but Arsenal are reportedly set to sign the 25-year-old Algerian in the upcoming days.
Leicester City have begun their improbable participation in the International Champions Cup, they’ll play both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in the upcoming weeks, with a sensational goal from Riyad Mahrez against Celtic.
Mahrez’s 46th minute effort was incredibly similar to some of the remarkable strikes he became synonymous with last year. Mahrez scored 17 goals en route to Leicester’s Premier League title, and this strike was a timely reminder of his importance to the Leicester cause.
Without Mahrez, Leicester are missing a genuine world-class talent. It’s been reported by Eurosport that he’s set to join Arsenal for €50 million in the coming days.
If this report is true, the losses of both N’Golo Kante and Mahrez would be a significant blow to a side looking to defend their title while beginning a UEFA Champions League campaign.
It would certainly be cruel for Leicester to lose two of their biggest stars before the season even began, even more because they'll have gone to two of their Premier League rivals.
Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri claims that Leicester’s aim, just like last year, is to avoid relegation and finish in the top 10. There’s no masking the fact that these understated ambitions are beginning to look more and more realistic.
