The club has been looking for reinforcements to its backline ever since Matthijs de Ligt left to Juventus and it has now solidified the transfer for the El Tri star.
The Mexican Soccer Federation wished Edson Alvarez good luck at his new club. “We are sure that you will have a breakthrough with Ajax,” the federation posted on Instagram.
The 21-year-old Alvarez, already a starter for El Tri, will be leaving Club America after 86 appearances and five goals scored since his debut back in 2016.
Mostly a center back, Edson has the ability to play in a variety of positions at back for the national team and his club.
The transfer adds to an already memorable summer for the player, who is just coming off the back of a 1-0 win over the United States in the 2019 Gold Cup final.
