In case you missed out on the action, the USWNT had itself a scoring fiesta during its 5-0 win in its second-to-last Send-Off Series match against New Zealand on Thursday night. 35,761 fans at Busch Stadium experienced greatness from the entire USWNT, but especially from two well-known veterans: Carli Lloyd and Ali Krieger.
The U.S. went into the second half sitting at a 2-0 lead and Jill Ellis decided to get some fresh legs in to start the second half. In the 61st minute Carli Lloyd entered the match. After being on the pitch for about 44 seconds, Lloyd’s first touch of the game ended in a quality finish at the back post after a feed from Tobin Heath, solidifying the U.S. lead to 3-0.
As the Americans gained confidence in the second half, Lloyd capitalized on another opportunity in the 83rd minute followed by another goal one minute later by teammate Samantha Mewis.
Lloyd made an immediate impact for the U.S., increasing her career total to 110 goals, surpassing Michelle Akers into fourth place on the USWNT’s all-time goal-scoring list. The captain also leads the team with five goals in 2019 and netted her fourth goal in the last three games. Not too shabby for a 36 year old.

Another veteran that has added her name to the USWNT history books is Ali Krieger.
Krieger earned her 100th cap Thursday, becoming the 38th USWNT player in history to accomplish this honor. Both Krieger and Lloyd have come off the bench and have been continuous contributors to the U.S. Their veteran status and accomplishments helped solidify yet another shut out during the Send-Off Series.

With just one game separating the U.S. from heading off to France, the Americans look to continue their scoring streak when they face Mexico in the final game of the series on May 26 at Red Bull Arena at 11:30 a.m. ET.
