Earlier this week, PSV Eindhoven announced it would open an office in Mexico, with an eye on expanding commercial opportunities both in Mexico and the United States.
On Friday, the Dutch club showed an outpouring of love for Mexico before PSV’s Eredivisie match with Excelsior.
PSV announced its Mexico branch on Tuesday, with former PSV players Carlos Salcido and Francisco “Maza” Rodriguez as ambassadors. Despite getting ready to play in the Club World Cup with Guadalajara, which he captains, Salcido was allowed to attend Friday’s match to watch his compatriots, Érick Gutierrez and Hirving Lozano, start together for the first time with PSV.

Before the match began, a Mariachi (replete with dancers) played on the field at Philips Stadion.

While the Mariachi may have been a bit much, the display of Mexico’s El Tri colors from the fans as the teams walked out was awesome.

The mascot kids who walk with the players even wore sombreros.
The match itself was pretty one-sided, with PSV winning 6-0 to bounce back from its first league loss of the season on Sunday. The Boeren have outscored opponents 53-7 in league play this season, which is kind of ridiculous.
Despite the many goals, for once neither Lozano nor Gutierrez found the back of the net. But that didn’t stop the fans from singing Lozano’s name.

Now we just need Werder Bremen to deck out the Weserstadion in Red, White & Blue.
