Freddy Adu is coming home.
Ther former savior of American soccer, Adu was capped by the USMNT at 16-years-old and was the number one pick in the MLS Superdraft at age 14.
NASL club Tampa Bay Rowdies have announced the signing of Adu, now 26. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Adu left Finnish club Kuopion earlier this month.
In Tampa Bay, Adu will be reunited with former USMNT U-20 coach Thomas Rongen.
“Freddy and I have always respected each other,” Rongen told the Rowdies' website. “He’s a very unique player, very gifted. He’s a difference-maker. He’s got superb technical ability and field awareness. He’s a guy that I’ve always enjoyed being around on and off the field. He’s got a wonderful sense of humor and is a good teammate. He can make any team better.”
"The Rowdies and Adu are a perfect fit," claimed the website. We shall see.
Tampa Bay is the 13th team Adu will have played for in his professional career.
