Manchester United announced Wednesday that they have signed Swedish defender Victor "The Ice Man" Lindelof away from Benfica. The only two things we know about Lindelof are his nickname (again, "The Ice Man") and the fact that he has earned the Zlatan seal of approval.
Think about that. The Ice Man. That is a bad ass nickname for a central defender. It's tough, rugged even, but implies a measure of calm calculation. The Ice Man will not be enticed by flashy moves into diving for the ball. The Ice Man will bide his time, he will wait you out. You will make a mistake, and then the Ice Man will strike.
The Ice Man will not be rattled by anybody. He is made of ice, which does not rattle. It is not a rattling substance. He will calmly go about his job while everything breaks down around him.
Anyway, Manchester United signed the Ice Man. Hopefully he lives up to the nickname. Otherwise, he will be subject to a lot of jokes about melting.
