Remember Ronaldo's really bad haircut at the 2002 World Cup? The one he would have never lived down if Brazil hadn't won the tournament and if he hadn't won the Golden Boot with eight goals? Apparently there was a reason for it.
Here's what Ronaldo told ESPN Brazil:
“My groin was hurting. I was only at 60 percent. So I shaved my head. Everybody was only talking about my injury. When I arrived in training with this haircut, everybody stopped talking about the injury.”
One one hand, sure, that makes sense, I guess. On the other hand, it seems fishy to me. WHy wait all these years when he could have absolved himself right after the World Cup? Why live with people thinking you got that haircut because someone held you down and shaved part of your head or, God forbid, you thought it would look good? Why bear that cross if you don't have to, and there's no real reason for you to bear it?
I don't buy Ronaldo's explanation. Methinks he got drunk one night and/or maybe lost a bet. Then again, no one would argue that I am an expert on haircuts.
