We all know that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the biggest stars in the world, but he's yet to become an icon like David Beckham.
Beckham didn't become an icon until he came to the America. Here, he parlayed his superstar status to mega-star when he decided to play in the MLS.
When Beckham signed with the LA Galaxy, it opened doors for him that may not have been open had he not come to this country.
Here are just a few reasons why Ronaldo should come play soccer in the US:
The exposure.
Ronaldo is big around the world, but if he came here to play just think of the exposure he'd get. The MLS has a TV contract with ESPN, which means more than likely he'll be on tv once a week which opens more doors for him.
More endorsements.
CR endorses a lot of products overseas like Coke and KFC, but can you imagine what other companies would kill for a piece of him? Reebok, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss just to name a few, would all probably want a piece of him.
He will face great competition on a regular basis.
I know he plays against some of the world's best now, but some of the best players in the world play in the MLS too, which could help him even more in international competition. Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey and Beckham all at one point played in the MLS and it helped their careers on and off the field.
He can be introduced into the entertainment industry.
If he wants a career in the entertainment industry, his chances would increase if he decided to move here. Since moving to the US, Becks has appeared in movies, documentaries of his life been done and he has done some underwear modeling. All have which lead him to becoming a soccer icon.
If Ronaldo really wants to go from superstar to mega-star, he can start by considering a move to the US and becoming a part of the MLS.
