The U.S. women’s national team conquered the 2024 Paris Olympics after defeating Brazil for the highly-anticipated Gold Medal — and they did in front of the largest at-home crowd ever.
USWNT-Brazil Paris 2024 Gold Medal match: the most-watched Olympics soccer game in NBC history
According to Jonathan Tannenwald, the USWNT-Brazil Gold Medal match last Saturday was the most-watched Olympics soccer live broadcast in NBC history.
The match surpassed the previous record held by the USWNT for their 2004 Gold Medal match against Brazil in Athens — the most-recent matchup between the two in the tournament’s final.
An item from NBC, after I asked their research department and they kindly obliged (and were as interested as I was)...
The #USWNT-Brazil game was in fact the most-watched #Olympics #football live broadcast in NBC history. Not just since 2004.#Paris2024 #gold— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) August 14, 2024
The broadcast also reportedly drew a combined 10,008,000 viewers (NBC, Telemundo and Peacock), making it the second most-watched soccer match in the United States this year, amidst a jam-packed summer of international tournaments.
The USA’s clash against Brazil reached more viewers than those of the Men's Euro 2024 final between Spain and England and was only behind the Copa America 2024 match between Argentina and Colombia which was the most-watched.
Telemundo says its #USWNT vs. Brazil #Olympics #football broadcast drew 608,000 viewers.
The combined total (NBC, Telemundo, Peacock) is 10,008,000.That's the No. 2 audience for a soccer game this year - ahead of the Euros final, behind the Copa final.#Paris2024 #gold
