The amazing Lionel Messi goal vs Benfica from October 5 was voted as the goal of the season for the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League on Friday.
Messi’s contract with PSG also expired on Friday meaning that on his last day of being under contract for a European club he won the goal of the season award. Not a bad way to go out.
Here’s the goal that won him the award.

Messi’s goal against Benfica was one of the 21 he scored in his final season for PSG across all competitions. His new contract with MLS side Inter Miami will run until December 2025. By then the Argentine superstar will be 38 years old. Have we seen the last of him in Europe? It looks likely.
Not too shabby of a way to call curtains by claiming the Champions League goal of the season. Now all that’s left for Messi is to see if he wins the Ballon d’Or.
