If you’re a fan of New York City FC you’ve had a rough past week trying to avoid being made fun. First, NYCFC held a “home” game in front of 1,000s of opposing fans. Now an embarrassing and flat out awful NYCFC championship banner reveal has all of Major League Soccer laughing at the club again.
The 2021 MLS Champions proudly hung their first banner in Yankee stadium before their game with CF Montreal on Saturday to show off their 2021 MLS Cup glory. There’s only one issue, literally no one can see the banner because it’s so tiny.

The banner is not really what was expected. $100 well spent though #NYCFC pic.twitter.com/WJ3yoQBVyt

NYCFC become the first club in soccer history to have a championship banner that’s bigger than their field
Sources confirm the banner is “regulation sized” and “definitely fits fifa standards of length and width, but just don’t measure it” pic.twitter.com/831GJRPOvh— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) March 12, 2022

How are we supposed to take this club seriously? Playing in Yankee Stadium is bad enough. Any professional soccer team that doesn’t play in a soccer-specific stadium already loses brownie points. I guess the Yankees are just as embarrassed about NYCFC as the rest of us and told the club to not let the banner be too noticeable.
Big banner or not, size didn’t appear to matter as NYCFC still got the job done against Montreal and won 4-1.
