Alexia Putellas is the greatest player in the world after winning FIFA’s Best Women’s Player of 2021, the Ballon d’Or and a bountiful amount of trophies. After being inexplicably snubbed from FIFA’s FIFPRO World XI squad, she flexed on her doubters with a game-winning goal in the Supercopa de España Femenina semifinal vs. Real Madrid to win 1-0.
Votes from 3,675 women’s players decided the FIFPRO World XI squad that excluded Putellas and all her Champions League-winning teammates. The 27-year-old has now responded on the field with an exclamation point as to why she’s the best.

The Supercopa de España Femenina is the one trophy that the most dominant team on the planet is desperately seeking this season. In the 2020-21 campaign the Supercopa was the only silverware Barcelona failed to acquire after losing in penalties to Atlético Madrid in the semifinals. That result was one of only three games Barcelona walked off as the losing side last season.
Real Madrid gave the defending Primera División champions a serious test on Wednesday. This was the first time in the 2021-22 season that Barcelona hadn’t won a game by at least a two-goal margin.
Wednesday’s mission for Real Madrid was bend don’t break. The defense faced an onslaught of attacks, but the defense and goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez managed to prevent any bleeding for 90 minutes.

Fridolina Rolfö looked certain to give Barcelona the lead in the 51st minute but somehow missed an open goal from six yards away.
⁉️¿Alguien tiene una explicación para el fallo de Rolfö? #SupercopaFemenina

Putellas’ goal prevented her side from going to extra time and penalties and Barcelona will play the winner of Atlético Madrid and Levante.
The close affair with Real Madrid on Wednesday is a great sign for the upcoming Champions League tie between the two sides. For the first time in club history the Barcelona women’s team will play in Camp Nou on March 30. Tickets sold out in a matter of days.
