AC Milan sits bottom of the Group B table after Porto’s Mehdi Taremi set up the game’s only goal from his bottom. The Porto goal vs Milan was awkward and fluky but no less than the home side deserved at the Estádio do Dragão.
Though Liverpool leads Group B with nine points after a wild win over Atlético Madrid, Porto is right in the race for a top-two spot after beating Milan 1-0 on Tuesday. Atleti leads the Portuguese side for second on goal difference (both have four points), but Porto gave itself a chance while leaving Milan pointless through three matches.
Porto-Milan was the only Champions League match of the day to not feature at least four goals. Just one was enough to decide it, and it arrived in the 65th minute from Luis Díaz.
Porto Goal vs Milan
Porto’s Sérgio Oliveira aimlessly volleyed the ball into the air to start the wacky play that resulted in the goal. Taremi then fell to the floor while battling for position with Milan’s Ismaël Bennacer. Taremi somehow maintained focus enough to bring the ball down and lay it off (read: get out of the way) for Díaz to smash home.
Something something now that’s what I call an ASSist.
Despite Zlatan Ibrahimović coming on for Olivier Giroud, Milan couldn’t find any offense and has now lost all three of its UCL games in the group stage. The shots on target were fairly even (2-1 Porto) but the home side racked up 20 shots total compared to a mere four for the Italians.
The two face off again on Nov. 3, this time at the San Siro, where the home side will be desperate for a win to stay alive in the race for a Europa League parachute.
