As you may have heard, this past week the epic saga Star Wars released its newest edition, The Force Awakens. While sitting around watching the old movies and a few matches this past weekend I couldn’t help but see some resemblances between a few of the characters in the movies and some of the athletes on the pitch, so I thought it would be fun to show a few of the best ones I found in what I would like to call:
Soccer Wars: A New Hope not named Solo
Or, alternatively:
Star Wars: The Football Awakens
We will start with Luke Skywalker, the hope of the Rebel Alliance. As you will see, he looks an awful lot like Michael Harrington of the Colorado rapids.
Not to be outdone is Luke’s father, Darth Vader. Is that Vader or Ghana’s manager, Avram Grant?
Another Jedi and Luke’s mentor, Obi-Won Kenobi, looks a lot like VfL Wolfsburg’s Nicklas Bendtner. You be the judge.
Mace Windu, a member of the Jedi Council, sure looks an awful lot like Fernandinho of Man City.
Fan favorite Lando Calrissianhad a big part in The Empire Strikes Back. Luiz Gustavo of the Brazilian National team and VfL Wolfsburg sure bears a strong resemblance to Lando.
Enough with the old characters, let’s look at some of the characters from the movie that just came out.
First we have the new face of the dark side, Kylo Ren, who is played by Adam Driver. Or is that Pachuca and USMNT defender Omar Gonzalez?
Omar better watch out because he has to do battle with Finn, or maybe it’s Kurt Zouma of Chelsea.
Teaming up with Kurt in this new film is Rey, or maybe it’s Ali Krieger.
The most obviously soccer related new character is the droid BB-8. Try and guess what he looks like.
Well before I leave you with I have to show my favorite, Jar Jar Binks, also known as Ronaldinho
May the force/football be with you!
