A Former Bank Robber Tried To Blackmail Bayern Munich. It Did Not Go Well

You should not try to blackmail Bayern Munich. This was the lesson learned by a man known as the "broomstick robber" (as far as robber nicknames go, he may have drawn the short, uh, broomstick here) when he was arrested for allegedly threatening Germany's foremost football club.

The former bank robber is alleged to have sent two letters to Bayern Munich, on February 9 and February 15 demanding €1 million in cash and €2 million worth of diamonds and threatened the club with bombs and drone attacks. Why he thought a football club would have €2 million in diamonds handy is anyone's guess.

The "broomstick robber," 63, spent 1999-2009 in prison on 17 counts of bank robbery.

From The Guardian:

"During the 1990s the robber made millions when he carried out a string of thefts in which he held hostages and locked bank doors with a broomstick before escaping with the money."

Sounds like a winner. He has been charged with blackmail for his actions. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, drew Juventus away, 2-2, in the Champions League Tuesday, and and beat Wolfsburg, 2-0, Saturday in the Bundesliga.

Looks like the blackmail attempts didn't affect their form much.
