I’m so sorry, Totti. I was wrong, I was so wrong. Your last goal wasn’t your last goal ever for AS Roma. It was just the beginning of a glorious farewell tour.
You scored two goals against Torino to win the game 3-2 and to secure Roma a place in the Champions League next year. You did that after 597 games and 247 goals for AS Roma. You did that after being the hero of AS Roma for 24 years.
I see so much emotion right now, so much pent up nostalgia and gratefulness that I can’t really put it all into words; How could I when I am an Arsenal fan. The only reason I am aware of these things is because I see pictures like this:
and this:
And hear the commentator break down in tears on live television after you score the second goal:
If you listen closely to the background noise, you can hear the other commentators in the press box losing their s*** as well. Imagine how loud they must be if you can hear them over the joyful sobs of first commentator, over the roar of the crowd. Imagine the passion they must be feeling. It’s unreal, nothing less than one of the coolest moments I have ever seen in sports.
Totti scored both of those goals in three minutes, seconds after he was subbed onto the pitch. It’s an unbelievable accomplishment for a 39-year-old legend, and one that deserves to go down in history as a legendary moment in a legendary career.
I don’t have anything else to say.
