Thierry Henry retired this week. In honor, here is a tribute to one of the greatest strikers of all time. Without further ado, The18 presents the 14 greatest moments of Thierry Henry's career, in no particular order.
1. Liverpool Hat Trick
Probably Henry's best overall game when including goals scored and quality of opponent.
2. Real Madrid Winner
It's hard to beat Ral Madrid in the Bernabeau, so when you do, it's cause for celebration.
3. Highbury Farewell
What better way to send off Arsenal's beloved stadium than with a Thierry Henry hat trick?
4. Brazil, 2006
This beutiful goal was for naught because Zidane couldn't hold his temper. Alas.
5. 1998 World Cup
Although Henry "only" scored three goals in the tournament, he got to win a World Cup in his home country, and that's special.
6. Ireland Handball
OK, maybe not Henry's greatest moment, although he did single-handedly (HA!) put France through to the World Cup. Certainly one of the moments he's best known for, though.
7. Goal On Loan
Nothing is cooler than a player returning to a stadium which has a statue of him outside and scoring in his return for the club. Nothing.
8. Manchester United Volley
In a technical sense, probably Henry's best goal ever.
9. Clasico Brace
Probably Henry's best performance of his Barcelona tenure, scoring two goals in a 6-2 thrashing of Real Madrid.
10. Ligue 1 Title With Monaco
A little reminder that Thierry Henry was pretty good before he got to Arsenal.
11-12. Arsenal All-Time Highest Goalscorer
Arsenal traveled to Sparta Prague, and Henry scored once to tie Ian Wright with 185 goals, and again to pass Wright with 186.
13. France's All-Time Highest Goalscorer
Against Lithuania, Henry scored his 42nd goal for France, passing Michael Platini for first all-time.
14. Last Goal, With New York Red Bulls
A fairly pedestrian goal by Henry's lofty standards, but when he scored it, nobody knew this was the last goal (Henry scores just after the 3:00-mark in the video) Thierry Henry would score as a professional soccer player. And with that, we bid him adieu.
