The Real Monarchs of the USL Championship announced Thursday they will host Landon Donovan’s San Diego Loyal SC on July 11 — with Rio Tinto Stadium open for up to 5,300 fans. It will mark the first U.S. sporting event with fans since the Denver Nuggets played the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA on March 11.

U.S. Soccer Shutters Development Academy Due To COVID-19 Fallout

The U.S. Soccer Federation said on Wednesday it was shutting down its youth development academy permanently due to the financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. 

U.S. Soccer, the sport's governing body in the United States, said in a statement the decision to shutter the academy, which it founded in 2007 and included competitions across five age groups, was effective immediately.

Earlier in the week, Memphis 901 FC announced that Howard was coming out of retirement and the club’s part-owner would be starting in goal for the team’s home opener. It turned out to be a return to forget as visiting Indy Eleven scorched Memphis, netting four goals past the former USMNT great.
