Casual U.S. soccer fans watching the USWNT in the SheBelieves Cup will likely have one big question. Why is Rose Lavelle not playing vs. Canada?

Lavelle will have to watch the USA’s first game of the tournament from the sideline. Head coach Vlatko Andonovski said on Wednesday that the star midfielder picked up a knock in training and will sit the first game out.

She could still play in the games against Japan and Brazil.

It was a qualifying slog that lasted a couple months, but the USMNT has finally, officially secured its place at the 2026 World Cup alongside co-hosts Mexico and Canada. 

FIFA announced the news Tuesday at its FIFA Council meeting, which also confirmed changes to the Club World Cup.

Today’s heroes in Guatemala are looking set to be tomorrow’s golden boys. The U-17 USMNT is in the midst of its Concacaf Championship campaign and has gotten off to about as good of a start as possible. Saturday’s comprehensive 5-0 drubbing of Barbados was followed by another dominant performance and a 3-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Monday night.

Holders Rangers moved into the quarterfinals of the Scottish Cup with a controversial 3-2 victory over Partick Thistle on Sunday in which they had to "gift" their opponents a goal.

Thistle's players were left apoplectic at Ibrox when Rangers player Malik Tillman put his side 2-1 ahead in dubious circumstances deemed unsportsmanlike.

After drawing 2-2 last Wednesday at Old Trafford, Manchester United and Leeds did it all again at Elland Road on Sunday with the Red Devils coming away victorious, 2-0, thanks to late goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. 

Fulham continue to impress in their return to the Premier League after defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Saturday for the team’s tenth EPL win this season. When the Cottagers were relegated in the 2020-21 season, they only recorded five league victories.

Saturday’s win saw another great shift from American defenders Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson. The American duo have become a wall on Fulham’s left side and kept the seventh clean sheet on the season.

Alex Morgan was named one of three finalists for the Best FIFA Women’s Player for 2022. This is the first time in three years that an American has been a finalist.
